Driving High



Now there's a sensitive topic! We can all agree that keeping the roads safe is important. Stupid mistakes can have terrible results. And pot does have the tendency to bring about stupid mistakes.

Much like alcohol, marijuana has a performance scale that relates to the quantity of usage. No surprise here, the more you consume, the worse your performance. There is a legal limit to booze, so where do we draw the line for weed?

This is where I think we may all get screwed. Cannabis takes more time than any other substance to leave your body, so the measurement device must be very precise. Add to the sophistication required for new technology, the varying tolerance levels amongst users.

The minimum answer you can give to a police office about when you last smoked weed is 2 days. For example, if it's Sunday morning and you said you smoked on Friday night, you would get busted for impaired driving.

I've known that for  while and always thought it was stupid. If you're chronic, then the high wears off in an hour. You're telling me I have to wait 2 days before I can drive? Guess I'm not going anywhere...

I came across a senate report summary on their investigations on stoned driving, as usual, the results show how the negative side effects pail in comparison to our violent cousin, Johnny Walker.

Here is an excerpt from Chapter 8- Driving Under the Influence of Cannabis

'Cannabis alone, particularly in low doses, has little effect on the skills involved in automobile driving. Cannabis leads to a more cautious style of driving. However it has a negative impact on decision time and trajectory. This in itself does not mean that drivers under the influence of cannabis represent a traffic safety risk'

So what is the government going to do? 48 hours seems ridiculous, yet driving like Cheech and Chong isn't good either. In my opinion, keep with the roadside tests. If you don't act high, you aren't high, right?
